Student visas
Students from EEA
Students coming from countries which are Member States of the European Economic Area - EEA (EEA Member States are the countries of the European Union, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein) do not need a permit (visa) to enter the Republic of Slovenia; you can enter with a valid identity card or a valid passport regardless of your purpose of stay. For all stays in Slovenia shorter than three months, you do not have to register your place of residence, you only need to register at the competent
police station within three days of crossing the country border.
If staying in Slovenia longer than three months, you have to register your place of residence at your local administrative unit prior to the expiry of the three-month permitted residence period.
Alternatively, you may apply for a certificate on the registration of their residence immediately after your entry into Slovenia (in Ljubljana: the Ljubljana Administrative Unit – Internal Administrative Affairs Division, Section for Foreigners, Tobačna ulica 5).
You receive your certificate on the registration of their residence on the basis of:
- a valid identity card or valid passport,
- a certificate of suitable health insurance,
- a certificate of sufficient means of subsistence.
Students from third countries*
If you are a citizen of a ‘third country’ with a valid passport and wish to enter and reside in the Republic of Slovenia due to tourist, business, personal or other reasons, you must acquire a visa at the diplomatic-consular mission of the Republic of Slovenia abroad. You can enter the Republic of Slovenia for the same reasons and stay here for a fixed period of time (a maximum of 90 days in a six month period, starting from the date of first entry) only on the basis of a passport if you are a citizen of a country that does not need a visa to enter the Republic of Slovenia.
For all stays in Slovenia shorter than three months you do not have to register your place of residence, you only need to register at the competent police station within three days of crossing the country border.
